Last week Council successfully conducted four in-depth engagement sessions with industry peak bodies, major developers, government agencies, and key stakeholders.
Led by Council and consultants 2EH Consulting, the sessions were well-received with industry representatives and state agencies expressing their appreciation for our proactive and collaborative approach.
A key highlight was the introduction of an innovative online mapping tool, a first among Queensland councils. This tool, designed to gather feedback on growth projections and development timelines, enhances Townsville’s long-term planning.
The feedback gathered in these sessions will be vital to inform the growth model and the subsequent draft amendment to the Local Government Infrastructure Plan.

Lau's experience in developing Local Government Infrastructure Plans in local and state government gives him a leading edge in providing advice and project guidance for the development of LGIPs. Scenic Rim Regional Council officers were lucky to have a very informative LGIP and Infrastructure Charges 101 session presented by Lau and Kerry Doss yesterday and have gained a much greater understanding of their importance and value for local government.

The LGIP project certainly took on a customer focus from the early stages, most in part to our 'Customer Journey' transition in 2023. I am so proud of the City Planning team in particular, this dynamic team has had to lead a transformative project across the whole organisation and industry!
